Education Plan for Professional Postgraduate in Construction and Civil Engineering Field


一、Introduction to professional field

JiangnanUniversitygained the right of masters degree conferring in construction andcivilengineeringin year 2014 to enroll professional postgraduate student. There are fourindependentand commondisciplinary directions, including geoenvironmental engineering, structural engineering, engineering construction and management and low carbon energy. The geoenvironmental engineeringis the newdisciplineclosely combininggeotechnicsand environmental science which mainly uses geotechnics theories, methods and technology to treat and protect the environment. The structural engineering mainly relates tostructuralperformance monitoring and control, research onstructural seismic behaviorofstructuralreinforcement and reconstruction. The engineering construction and management mainly relates to construction technology of civil engineering, construction process control, risk and safety management of engineering project and contract management of the engineering contract. The low carbon energy mainly relates to research on related policies of energy-saving of buildings and green buildings, research and application on construction energy saving and improvement technology, R&D and promotion of low carbon technology.

二、Educational objectives

The construction and civil engineering is theimportantengineering field in infrastructure construction, it is a subject that research and create theecological conditionand all kinds of engineering facilities needed by the society. This subject is related with survey, design, construction andmaintenanceof industrial and civil building and its environment and equipment.The education target ofprofessional postgraduate student of environmental field of construction and civil engineering: to educate senior engineering technical personnel with solid and systematic basic theory and professionalknowledgeof construction and civil engineering andenvironmental geotechnics, etc.; knowing the advance in the relevant subjects, with strongscientificresearch ability, use advanced technology and method to solve survey, design, construction and maintenanceproblems, etc. of the engineering fields, with the ability to grasp and use a foreign language,andwiththeability to undertake technical or management work of related engineering field.

四、Duration of study

2.5yearsstudy system is implemented. The schooltimeof postgraduate studentshall be2years at least and3.5 years at most.

五、Credit requirements and courses offering

Credit system is adopted for the course study. The coursed include general courses,compulsorycourses, degree courses and optional courses. The professional degree postgraduatestudentshall earn 36 credits at least within required period,among which thetotal course credits shall not be less than 28,credits of degree courses shall not be lower than 10, credits of compulsory courses shall not be lower than 3.Theacademicreport is 2 credits and professional practice is 6 credits.

七、Dissertation defense and degreeconferring

1.The postgraduate student shall finishrequiredcourses study in the education plan and earn required credits with qualified results (among which the average point of professional and degree courses shall be at least 70), finish the dissertation independently under the guidance of the tutor.

2.Requirementsof graduation time

(1)Publish at least oneacademicpaper related with the subject content (excludingsummary) on SCI journal with Jiangnan University as theresponsibleorganization and the postgraduate student as the first author;the postgraduate student may apply graduation in 2 years.

2Other postgraduates complying withStandards of Master of Engineering Professional Degreeof National Master of Engineering EducationSupervisoryCommittee may apply graduation in 2.5 years.
